Unlearn

The Parable of the Cup:

Imagine a cup filled to the brim with water. It represents everything we’ve accumulated—old thoughts, beliefs, habits, and experiences. If someone tries to pour in more, there’s no space left, and nothing new can enter. The cup must first unlearn—it must be emptied of what no longer serves, creating space to receive fresh ideas and growth.

Proper nutrients, support growth

Just like the cup, a tree grows from the ground, taking in nutrients and sunlight. However, if the trunk of the tree is not fully decayed, new life can’t take hold. New growth struggles to emerge because the old is blocking the way.

  • The Broken Tree Trunk: Represents our current state—where past experiences, beliefs, and habits have accumulated, but weren’t strong enough. It cannot grow from what it once was.

  • The New Life Growing: This is the fresh opportunities, new ideas, and positive transformations that arise when we begin unlearning—growing from the decay of what it was.

  • The Soil: Represents what we feed ourselves—Physically, mentally, emotionally. When the conditions are right, there’s growth. Proper nutrients, support growth. Improper nutrients, impede growth.

  • Sunlight and Weather - This represents things that our out of our control. Plants have evolved highly sophisticated mechanisms to adapt, survive, and thrive. They make the most of their surroundings, ensuring they can grow even in difficult conditions.
